Coinbase Appoints Fintech and Crypto Leader Katie Mitchell as New Policy Officer for APAC as Part of Regional Leadership Expansion – NFTgators

Coinbase has announced its new APAC Policy Officer, Katie Mitchell, as the company reshuffles its leadership in the region. It is focused on long-term building in the APAC region after gaining an Approval-in-Principle (IPA) from the Monetary Authority of Singapore to provide regulated digital payment token services in the island state.
Mitchell was most recently a member of the advisory board of the Emerging Payments Association Asia and chair of the Web3 subcommittee of the Singapore Fintech Association.
Previously, she was Global Head of Public Policy and Government Engagement at Crypto.com, where she was the first hire to build and lead a global team of policy and engagement professionals. She also led global external affairs and communications efforts regarding political issues.
Her extensive experience in fintech and public policy also included a role as vice president and global head of public policy at Nium, Southeast Asia’s first B2B fintech unicorn. Her fintech career began at Visa, where she held various positions during her decade-long tenure, including APAC Government Relations Strategy and Execution and Head of Global Strategic Initiatives and Government Relations.
Mitchell will lead Coinbase’s work with policymakers in the APAC region while Hassan Ahmed, Coinbase’s country manager in Singapore, will continue to lead the company’s efforts in the country.
Coinbase’s Country Manager for Australia, John O’Loghlen, will expand his role to include the Regional Managing Director for APAC. He will lead the company’s focused approach in the region in 2023. Additionally, he was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of Blockchain Australia, the country’s leading industry network for companies implementing or evaluating blockchain technology. .
In addition to focusing on its breakthroughs in the APAC region, Coinbase is also expanding its operations to the EMEA region, having recently made four new appointments to its management team in Europe.
