Jay-Z and Twitter Founder Jack Dorsey Announce Bitcoin Academy, Exclusive to Residents of Brooklyn’s Marcy Projects

Hawn “Jay-Z” Carter partnered with the founder of Twitter Jack Dorsey to form a new cryptocurrency educational program called Bitcoin Academy. The opportunity will be exclusive to residents of Marcy Projects in New York, where Carter grew up, and the class series will run for three months, beginning Wednesday, June 22.

“[B]itcoin is becoming an essential tool for many people in Africa and Central and South America. We believe the same potential exists within communities in the United States. Our goal is to prove that making powerful tools more accessible to people allows them to build greater autonomy,” Dorsey posted Thursday morning on Twitter. “Education is where we start. It’s not just about bitcoin…it’s about long-term thinking, local savings and self-confidence. Classes are free for all Marcy residents , including kids. And to make it even easier, we’re providing devices and data plans to anyone who needs them.”

And two other organizations will work with Carter and Dorsey to realize the vision of Bitcoin Academy: Black Bitcoin Billionaire (BBB) ​​and Crypto Blockchain Socket. Lamar Wilson and Najah Roberts, the respective founders of the organizations mentioned above will be the academy instructors,
